Small Groups
First & Wesley UMC does have a traditional service schedule, but First & Wesley is more than scheduled church services. We are a community of people living life together, helping one another, caring for each other, and serving our community along side one another. Every week or month, people come together to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live…together. We call these Small Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
No matter where you are in life, it is within these small groups that we make new friends, grow deeper in our relationship with God, and practice applying the gospel to our lives, our community, and the world.
To join any of the groups, simply show up. Contact the group leader or the church for more information.

The Study will take us on an exploration into ten key beliefs, ten key practices, and ten key virtues of Christianity. Grounded in carefully selected Scripture passages, BELIEVE is a spiritual growth experience that takes you on a journey to think, act, and become more like Jesus. Take a deep breath, center yourself, and imagine a shawl wrapped over your shoulders and across your chest. Close your eyes and listen to the gentle whisper in your ear – a soft voice telling you to let go and trust that everything will be okay and that you are being held in the loving arms of the Creator and in the heart of the caring knitter. This is how it feels to wear a handmade prayer shawl.
Prayer Shawl group knits and crochets numerous prayer shawls and baby blankets for premature babies of New Haven. These have been dedicated and distributed to many friends and family, so they can offer comfort to those in need of physical or emotional healing.
If you or someone you know are in need of a prayer shawl, contact the church office. There are blessed shawls in the church office, letters to go with them, and gift bags. If you can’t knit but would like to contribute monetary donations toward the purchase of yarn, please contact Linda Kopec.
Prayers for Hope and Healing
The Rev Cindy Dodd, retired United Methodist Elder, will be offering intercessory prayer services at three churches within our cooperative parish.
