The Season of Resurrection
Spring is coming. Beginning in March, we can feel that spring season is slowly but surely approaching. Temperatures rise steadily and the colors of nature change accordingly. Trees produce new leaves and flowers bloom with buds. The frozen streams flow lively again. This is how nature revives in the spring. Looking at it like this, it is probably no coincidence that Easter falls in the spring. “Hymn of Promise (UMH 707),” which is one of my favorite hymns, sings a paradox of death and resurrection through the vitality of spring.
1. In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree;
in cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
2. There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; there’s a dawn in every darkness bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
3. In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;
in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity.
In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
Spring is coming after winter. We know it and we will soon see it also this year too. In the death is the resurrection. Jesus Christ proved it and we will experience it in our faithful journey. In this spring season, I hope that we all contemplate Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection just as we feel spring coming to life after the winter.
